Description

Inspiration

This teapot was inspired by a centuries-old tree knot found in the forests of Qinzhou, China. After a storm tore a branch from an ancient tree, the master potter discovered the gnarled, weathered knot left behind — rough, twisted, and full of character. He spent days studying every wrinkle and hollow before ever touching the clay.

The Craft

Every detail on the pot’s belly is hand-carved, following the natural shape of the original tree knot. Using a tiny steel blade, the artist worked slowly, one incision at a time, to recreate the texture of aged wood — its cracks, its holes, its quiet strength. No molds, no templates. Because no two tree knots in nature are ever the same, this teapot is one of a kind.

The spout and handle are shaped like bamboo joints — a nod to the forests of southern China, where old trees and bamboo grow side by side. One represents endurance, the other elegance.

The Clay

Made from authentic Nixing clay from Qinzhou, Guangxi — one of China’s four famous pottery clays. Fired at high temperature, the surface develops a rich, dark patina that deepens with every brew. With regular use, the pot becomes smoother and warmer, slowly taking on its own character over years of tea.

The Meaning

This is not a “perfect” teapot. That is exactly the point. It carries the marks of time, the way real trees do. When you hold it, you are holding a small piece of an old forest, transformed by fire into something you can use every day.

A Note on Uniqueness

Each piece is handcrafted and kiln-transformed — no two are identical. Subtle variations in color, texture, and size are the signature of genuine Nixing clay: your piece is truly one of a kind. Photos are for reference; please allow for slight differences from the images.
